I will often find myself at a loss when I hear of people who are looking for a job tell me…”there just aren’t any good jobs out there”. The problem I have with these comment is as follows : ITS FALSE!! What one person would consider “the job from hell” another would consider as their life long fulfillment and while you might think that pumping gas is no job to speak of, the kid down the street who wants to save up for his new XBOX games would completely disagree!
I went to high school with a guy who has built his career on showing people that they need to get out there and find their passion… you can check out … www.oneweekjob.com … and the journey that lead to a whole movement was at the heels of Sean getting out there and finding 52 jobs in a year. How does a guy find that many jobs in one year? It’s because he was willing to try anything in the pursuit of finding the one thing that gave him life. And he did.
How may times have you scoured the job banks, how many interviews have you turned down because it “wasn’t the job you were looking for”? Do you have any idea how many jobs exist regardless of the malcontent reporters and newscasters that would have you believe that “everyone’s cutting back” and “unemployment is at an all time high”? So you’re asking by now, whats the current employment news already?! Here it is… get ready… THERE ARE JOBS OUT THERE, possible roles that you never imagined of pursuing, and all you have to do is APPLY! This really isn’t current employment news at all, in fact, as long as companies have existed and as long as they continue to exists, there will always be more jobs!
A friend of mine recently recanted a story of how he won a deep sea fishing competition, had never been deep sea fishing before and was asked to come along for the ride and give it a try. Willing to give anything a try he agreed and found himself in the company of deep sea fishing professionals. All lines cast and they day was drawing long, not a single fish caught by him or the professionals, when all of sudden the line flew! Hours later, sore legs, tired arms and a 750+ lb blue marlin!! Not bad for someone just trying it out.
My point is, if its steady work or just a job you’re searching for, try the first thing you find next time! You may be blown away by what happens next!
